Closet Staples ft. Alyssa Andress's Wardrobe
My good friend and amazing blogger, Alyssa Andress, asked me to style her using her own wardrobe. The idea was that I could come in and give her a new perspective on what she already owns. We had a blast and it made me realize that I tend to gravitate toward certain items in a wardrobe. I basically knew what I was looking for when I opened her closet: a leather jacket, denim jacket, slip dress, and a lot of things for layering.
Something that I’ve really grown to love over the last few years is being able to tuck thin/silky dresses into pants to make a top. I do this all the time with my personal wardrobe. It’s easy and can create a completely new look out of something that has had its wear. This is why I have so many slip dresses in my basil collections - I can’t get enough.
If you haven’t already noticed, I’m a big advocate for getting the most use out of something before it retires to the back of my closet for a year. The best way to do this is to layer. Layering can really make your outfit go from ‘eh’ to ‘wow’! If you’re going to “fake it til you make it” when it comes to styling, layering is a great place to start because you don’t even have to match. Layers can give your outfit the intrigue it was missing before. So next time you throw on a jacket, try to throw on two.
